Over 5,000 Uzbek pilgrims to visit Saudi Arabia this year

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Over 5,000 citizens of Uzbekistan will make the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in 2009, the Board of Muslims of Uzbekistan said. The Board said the first group of pilgrims will leave for Saudi Arabia on 10 November.

Uzbekistan Havo Yollari (Uzbekistan Airways) organized flights from Bukhara, Urgench, Termez and Namangan to Saudi Arabia this year. Earlier, pilgrims flied to Mecca only from Tashkent.

The Uzbek Government also undertook measures to prevent the spread of the A/H1N1 influenza in Uzbekistan during the pilgrimage and protect the health of the pilgrims and the general public.
