Over 118,000 people registered in Uzbekistan with diabetes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Over 118,000 people registered in Uzbekistan with diabetes, the first deputy minister of healthcare of Uzbekistan Asilbek Hudayarov said at the press conference in Tashkent.

He said that in line with epidemiological data, number of diabetes in Uzbekistan is increasing by 5%. He said that Over 118,000 people registered in Uzbekistan with diabetes, but large part of people with diabetes are unrevealed.

Currently, some 246 million people with diabetes live worldwide. If effective measures are not undertaken, each sixth person will suffer from diabetes after 25 years and each second by the mid of the 21st century.

On 20 December 2006, the United Nations (UN) passed a resolution to designate 14 November as World Diabetes Day. The occasion aimed to raise awareness of diabetes, its prevention and complications and the care that people with the condition need. Governments, non-governmental organizations and private businesses are encouraged to increase awareness of the disease, particularly among the general population and the media. World Diabetes Day was first commemorated on 14 November 2007, and is observed annually.

As a tradition, Uzbekistan will organize a diabetes month. The diabetes month has been held in Uzbekistan since 2007.

The month is organized by Endocrinological and Diabetes Association of Uzbekistan, National specialized scientific-practical medical center of endocrinologicy at the support of Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan and Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan.

The month is aimed at raising awareness of people about diabetes, its risks factors, diagnosis and preventing complications.
