Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 December, the General Assembly of the Asian Olympic Council (OCA) began its work in the city of Muscat (Amman). According to tradition, today, a day before the start of the Assembly, a meeting of the Executive Committee took place. During this event, a new leadership and members of the Executive Committee of the organization were elected. This was reported by the NOC of Uzbekistan.

In accordance with the Constitution of the Olympic Council (according to 71 and 76 articles), the country, which will host one of the 5 major complex competitions, has the right to nominate a candidate for the post of vice president of the OCA.

Thus, thanks to the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Uzbekistan, our country for the first time received the right to propose its representative for the post of vice president of the OCA.

The noteworthy feature of this prestigious conference for us is that our compatriot, the head of the Central Asian MMA Confederation Otabek Umarov was among the candidates who were nominated for the post of vice president of the OCA.

During the online meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, which was held on 10 December, it was decided to nominate Otabek Umarov as a candidate for the post of vice-president of the OCA. At today’s meeting of the Executive Committee of the Asian Olympic Council, the candidacy of Otabek Umarov was unanimously approved, and Otabek Mukhammadilevich became the official vice-president of the organization.

“To begin with, I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone for the trust placed in me. It is a great pride for me to defend the rights and interests of our country in such a prestigious organization and to assist the development of the Olympic Movement in the continent. Holding the Asian Youth Games in Tashkent in 2025 is a kind of test for New Uzbekistan in front of the whole world. With the support of our esteemed President and the government of the country, we will make every effort to hold this sporting event at a high level,” Otabek Umarov said.

Today, on 16 December, the General Assembly of the Asian Olympic Council will be held in Muscat. Our compatriot Otabek Umarov will take part in this event as the official vice-president of the OCA. Another noteworthy thing is that during the Assembly, tomorrow there will be a contract signing ceremony on the occasion of the Asian Youth Games 2025 in Tashkent.

Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov, First Deputy Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Ravshan Irmatov, Secretary General of the NOC, Director of the Asian Youth Games Tashkent-2025, Oybek Kasymov, Deputy Chairmen of the NOC Saken Polatov and Azizjon Kamilov, advisers to the chairman of the NOC Iskander Shadiev and Sherzod Asatullaev take part in the General Assemblies of the OCA on behalf of Uzbekistan.
