OSCE trains police officers in Uzbekistan on international human rights standards
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Training courses for police in Uzbekistan on OSCE and international human rights standards started today in Karshi, in the southern part of the country, and will continue next week in Andijan in the east.

The two three-day courses, organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, will continue until 20 February with 50 participants from the Interior Ministry and its offices in the Kashkadarya, Andijan, Ferghana and Namangan regions.

Participants in the training courses will study basic principles of human rights and the international system of human rights protection. They will also discuss case studies on the role of law enforcement agencies in ensuring rights, including the right to peaceful assembly, freedom of expression and privacy.

The courses are financed by the Government of Germany and are part of larger initiative by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator and the Interior Ministry on human rights. Four other training courses were organized during 2012.
