Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 19 December 2019, the Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Sherzod Asadov made a report at the next meeting of the Permanent Council of the organization, in which the heads of permanent missions of all 57 countries participated along with 11 partner countries, as well as leaders and representatives of bodies.
Those present were introduced to the key provisions of the conceptual presentation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the meeting dedicated to the 27th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Uzbekistan, as well as information on the preparations for the upcoming 22 December parliamentary elections.
In particular, the report emphasized that ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution and laws is the most important criterion for building a legal democratic state in Uzbekistan, and guarantees of peace and progress, as well as the results of all reforms, are directly related to this basic principle.
The attention of the participants was drawn to ongoing ongoing transformations in Uzbekistan in the field of ensuring human rights and freedom of speech.
It was noted that the next elections to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan scheduled for 22 December will be held under the slogan "New Uzbekistan - new elections." The difference between the current electoral process and the previous ones is due, first of all, to the work done in the field of improving the electoral law.
It was indicated that observers from dozens of international organizations will participate in the election process, including the full-fledged mission of the Bureau for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, and the delegation of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
Following the meeting, the report was circulated as an official document of the OSCE Permanent Council.
