OSCE helps mainstream human rights into training for police officers in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A two-day OSCE-supported training seminar for police officers promoting awareness of the international human rights standards and role of the police in ensuring and protecting human rights opened in Tashkent today.

The seminar is organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan together with the Police Academy of Uzbekistan. It brings together 30 sergeants, representatives of the sergeants schools, the Police Academy and the Ministry of Interior.

"The OSCE Project Coordinator places special importance to the training of police staff on human rights, in order to help them respect and protect human rights in their work,” said Christoph Opfermann, Senior Project Officer of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan. “The programme will have a strong emphasis on participatory and interactive training methods including specific exercises on the practical application of human rights provisions and standards to the operational police activities. "

The training is part of wider co-operation between the OSCE Project Co-ordinator and the Interior Ministry on human rights.
