OPIC to resume financing projects in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) will resume financing projects in Uzbekistan.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the Hosiyatli Bog‘ Plus farm delegation from Jizzakh region held a meeting and established partnerships with OPIC.

Established in 1971, the American corporation OPIC is implementing programs to support private investment in developing countries. The assets of the corporation are US$30 billion.

The purpose of the negotiations in Washington is to discuss the prospects for cooperation in the creation of an intensive garden and a modern greenhouse in Bakhmal district of Jizzakh region.

The project cost is US$21 million. The project envisages planting over 180 hectares of apple, almond, sweet cherry seedlings on the land, as well as the construction of modern high-performance greenhouses, installation of cold rooms and drying equipment from leading global manufacturers.

The project will allow cultivating the cultivation of agricultural products, their processing and export, mainly to the neighboring countries of Uzbekistan, as well as Russia.

The project is expected to begin in March 2019 and production will reach full capacity by 2021.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan, a number of other investment projects in the field of hotel business, the development of private medical services, and agriculture are currently being worked out with OPIC.
