Once the user installs and runs Opera Max, the app starts compressing and rerouting data to the data-savings cloud using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). All non-encrypted data requests (excluding websites and apps with HTTPS connections) are sent through Opera Software’s compression servers, which optimize video, images and websites to use less data.
Opera Max also allows users to tame their apps by detecting when they are roaming, so they can prevent their apps from using any expensive data. Users can easily block any app from using mobile data and restrict it to using Wi-Fi only.
Opera Max’s unique user interface gives users a timeline of app usage and how much data is saved because of Opera Max by month or by day. The timeline shows usage and savings by individual app, as well as in total.
“Opera Max is the next step in the evolution of the compression technology pioneered by Opera Software. Users in the USA and Europe are already enjoying Opera Max and saving mobile data. Now it’s Russian and CIS users’ turn to see how much extra data they can get from their data plans simply by installing Opera Max”, says Sergey Lossev, Head of Opera Max at Opera Software.
