The contest was conducted by KOICA IT volunteers, with the great support of "SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS", which cooperated to open “Smart Class” in TUIT by Samsung employees and KOICA volunteers in September.
This Olympiad was held in two areas: knowledge of MS Office and Programming & Design. The main tournament of MS Office was held on 6 December 2014 at the Tashkent IT center under the Mayor’s Office of Tashkent city, where a preliminary selection of participants by region was done, 43 students participated in this stage. Contest participants were tested for knowledge of such programs as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel. 19 participants who received over 60 points were awarded with certificates and top 2 participants received the Grand Prize - they were awarded with certificates and "Samsung Galaxy" tablets.
On December 12, 2014 the Tashkent State University of IT (TUIT) hosted an awarding ceremony for the winners of Programming & Design contest. This competition was held on four optional topics: Android, Windows, Web-design and programming. Evaluation of participants’ works within this contest was held in two stages: the first stage consisted of reviewing the documents, and at the second stage the participants demonstrated their works. According to the results of this contest 4 groups received gold, silver and bronze awards, and 6 groups received various prizes. Samsung-Note 4, Galaxy tablets and Galaxy S5 were awarded to the prize winners.
The present contest "Opening of the first Software Olympiad by KOICA" was held by KOICA IT volunteers in order to encourage students, who are studying IT. Tremendous support in holding this competition was rendered by one of the leading universities of Uzbekistan TUIT, Tashkent city hall and the "SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS" company. Through the combined efforts of above institutions, the first software contest became successful. More cooperation projects are expected in the next year.
