Olympic Council of Asia Seminar on Gender Equality ends in Manama

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In the capital of Bahrain, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) held an international seminar on the strategic roadmap of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to ensure gender equality on the continent in accordance with the Olympic Agenda 2020+5. 

Active propagandists of women’s sports in Uzbekistan took part in it on behalf of our country, in particular, the legendary Uzbek and world gymnast Oksana Chusovitina, Secretary General of the Federation of Modern Pentathlon of Uzbekistan Ksenia Gulyamova, chief specialist of the Department of International Relations of the NOC Nargiza Kholmirzaeva.

At the event, which lasted two days, Oksana Chusovitina also made a presentation. She spoke about her life and the challenges she faced in the sports arena, how she had to overcome them, the importance of sport for finding a place in society, saying that she never regrets her choice, but rather is happy with it. She also recommended that all women exercise regularly for their own health. At the end of the seminar, Sheikha Hayat bin Abdul Aziz Al Khalifa, responsible for gender equality issues of the OCA, presented a memorable gift to our compatriot.

Also in his address, the Acting President of the OCA, Raja Randhir Singh, noted that all National Olympic Committees will be supported by the Organization in an effort to promote and develop the movement of women in sports in the continent.

In addition, he stated that the OCA is committed to providing a solid platform for women to succeed, not only on the playing field, but also in sports organizations, administration and the boardroom.

During the seminar, representatives of our country met with Sheikha Hayat bin Abdul Aziz Al Khalifa, as well as with a number of foreign officials, exchanged views on issues such as bringing the development of women’s sports in our country to a new level.

It is worth noting that this seminar was of great value in highlighting the main issues facing the women’s sports movement today, as well as in helping delegates and NOCs overcome some of these issues by working together and providing advice and support.
