Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Nurlan Yermekbayev has been appointed as the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for the period from 2025 to 2027.

Currently, he holds the position of Deputy Secretary-General of the SCO from January 2023.

Nurlan Yermekbayev also served as the Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan from August 2018.

Nurlan Yermekbayev will succeed Zhang Ming in this role, who has been serving as the Secretary-General of the organization since 1 January 2022
