Nur Asia Mohd Awal: “The forum creates a unique dialogue space in the Asian region to discuss issues of realizing the potential of women and sharing experience in this direction”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First of all, I would like to congratulate the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on hosting the authoritative Asian Women’s Forum on the topic “Regional approach to expanding the economic, social and political rights and opportunities of women.”

This timely initiative was put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in his speech at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The forum convened in Samarkand once again emphasizes that Uzbekistan’s proposals voiced at international platforms are being implemented.

This forum demonstrates Uzbekistan’s strong commitment to the economic empowerment of women, as well as promoting the gender equality agenda in all spheres of society. In this context, I believe that the amendments to the legislation adopted in Uzbekistan, which tighten penalties for domestic violence against women, deserve special attention.

The forum creates a unique dialogue space in the Asian region to discuss issues of realizing the potential of women and sharing experience in this direction.

I am honored to be invited to the forum and share Malaysia’s experience in ending violence against women. Malaysia is a multi-religious and multi-cultural society, 60% of which are Muslim. I am confident that the event will provide everyone with the opportunity to learn a lot of lessons and learn from each other.

I am glad to visit friendly Uzbekistan again. I am watching with interest the reforms taking place in the republic. Each visit allows me to witness more and more positive changes both at the legislative level and in the everyday life of society. We wish your country every success!

Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Noor Asia Mohd Awal
