Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) –– According to the Robert Koch Institute of Infectious Diseases, on 22-23 October, the number of new cases in Germany made up 13,500 on Friday and 14,714 on Saturday. At the same time, this figure in the spring was 6,900 a day.

For the second time, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on Germans to refrain from secondary contacts and trips when “every day counts” in a weekly video message for the second time.

In this regard, observers note a number of factors that reduce the effectiveness of measures to combat coronavirus.

1. Lack of measures in the federal states to counter the spread of coronavirus. The prime ministers of the lands do not strictly implement the agreement from 14 October on the introduction of certain restrictive measures (requirements for wearing masks, limiting the number of assemblies).

In this regard, a repeated meeting of Angela Merkel with the prime ministers of the lands is planned to discuss additional measures. There are currently no national restrictions and the 16 German states set their own rules.

2. The desire of politicians to "reach out" to the minds of people, to achieve the consent of the population to self-restraint "without violating fundamental rights" and tough political decisions.

3. Even the “soft measures” being taken cause discontent and opposition among the population:

a) politicians are accused of hypocrisy and failure to comply with prescribed restrictive measures; (After the Minister of Health Jens Spahn contracted the coronavirus, none of the members of the government went into isolation.)

b) in Berlin there were protests against restrictive measures and "imprisonment", and a Molotov cocktail was thrown into the building of the Institute of Infectious Diseases of R. Koch. (More than 30,000 people took part in protests against coronavirus restrictions in Berlin in August.)

Due to the increase in the number of infections, health authorities can no longer trace contacts and compliance with the rules is becoming "the most effective way to fight the pandemic."

According to epidemiologists, a new complete isolation in Germany in the near future "will be the only way out" if it is not possible to reduce the number of new infections.
