Assets of the credit unions made up US$120.612 million and loan portfolio reached US$106.342 million. Deposits at credit unions made up US$89.135 million as of 1 October 2009.
The Central Bank of Uzbekistan said the charter capital of the credit unions in Uzbekistan comprised US$12.029 million.
The Uzbek financial market regulator said a project “Development of small and microfinancing” is realized in Uzbekistan with participation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Total cost of the project is US$50 million, of which US$20 million is loan of the ADB.
The project, which is implemented till 2011, comprises of two components: creation of institutional base for credit unions and allocation of credit line to commercial banks to finance small businesses.
As of 1 October 2009, the commercial banks of Uzbekistan fully used credits, allocated within the second component.
Agency on Financial Sector Development is developing mechanism on secure and reliable centralized storage and exchange information on debtors of the credit unions within the ADB project. It is planned to expand technical opportunities of the National Credit Information Institute under the Central Bank to allow credit unions to exchange information about debtors.
