Uzbekistan 04/10/2007 Number of appeals to Uzbek courts on rise
The results of analyses of statistical reports show that the number of appeals to courts by citizens seeking protection of their rights and legal interests is increasing, the UzA news agency reports.

A meeting chaired by the chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Boritosh Mustafoyev, said that about 70,000 such appeals were considered in 2000, whereas in 2006 the figure stood at 421,000. In all, 96 per cent of suits have been redressed, violated rights and interests of citizens have been restored.

The meeting stressed that the courts, while considering civil cases, were correctly applying legislative norms on the whole. However, despite the existence of rules that regulate the use of evidences, there are misunderstandings, mistakes and miscalculations in this issue.

In this connection, with the purpose of removing these shortcomings and correctly applying legislative norms regarding evidences and court rulings, a draft resolution "On some issues of applying legislative norms by courts while considering civil cases" was worked out and submitted to the meeting for discussion. The document had been sent to scholars, experts and state bodies. Their views were taken into account and included in the draft.

The meeting discussed the draft resolution and adopted a relevant decision on it.
