Number of 5G users in China exceeds 1 billion

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  The number of 5G users in China has surpassed 1 billion, accounting for 56% of the total number of mobile subscribers in the country. This is a significant achievement for the world’s largest telecommunications market, Xinhua reports.

A key factor in this growth has been the massive expansion of infrastructure. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT), by the end of November 2024, approximately 4.2 million 5G base stations had been installed across the country. This marks an important milestone in achieving the goals of the five-year plan and confirms China’s leadership in global 5G deployment.

More than 60% of the stations are located in eastern regions such as Shanghai and Beijing, where the technology is actively being implemented to improve the quality of communication and internet services in major cities.

Shanghai has also introduced an ambitious plan to fully integrate 5G and 5G-A with artificial intelligence and robotics by 2026, as reported by China Daily.

The development of 5G has had a significant impact on China’s economy. According to GSMA data, the mobile ecosystem based on 5G created around 8 million jobs in 2023.

Since the commercial launch of 5G in 2019, the total economic output from this technology has reached about 5.6 trillion yuan (US$767 billion), confirming predictions of 5G’s vital role in driving economic growth in China.

By 2030, the number of 5G users worldwide is projected to reach 6.3 billion, with China accounting for approximately 23% of the global mobile services market, according to the Ericsson Mobility Report.

Thus, China continues to actively develop and implement 5G, contributing to economic growth, job creation, and improving citizens’ quality of life through faster internet and innovative digital services.
