Uzbekistan 18/09/2009 No violations to be allowed in parliamentary polls - Uzbek CEC chief

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Central Electoral Commission of Uzbekistan (CEC) Mirzaulugbek Abdusalomov said that the elections are an important political event in the country’s life and no violations will be allowed in parliamentary elections.

“No-one, first of all, state bodies in the capital and localities will be allowed to interfere in the election process. Any attempt to interfere in the process of the election campaign, get around and violate requirements of the legislation, as well as revealed cases of sponsorship will be strictly suppressed and punished in line with the legislation,” Abdusalomov said.

The Uzbek election body’s chairman said that “giving any privilege or preference to any participants in the election campaign is ruled out. The norms and requirements of the electoral legislation, the procedure for preparing and holding elections, stipulated by the law and this blueprint, are compulsory and the same for everybody, taking account of the fact that all those new provisions of the legislation on elections, adopted by Oliy Majlis, will be strictly observed”.
