No Evidence Found of Wastewater Discharge into Charvak Reservoir

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Reports circulating on social media regarding the alleged discharge of wastewater into the Charvak Reservoir, located in the Bostanlyk district, have been officially investigated and found to be unsubstantiated.

A rapid-response inspection was carried out by an interagency team comprising specialists from the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the Inspection for Construction and Public Utilities Control under the Cabinet of Ministers, and other relevant agencies. The inspection took place at the reservoir’s observation point located in the Navobod mahalla, the Ministry’s press service reported.

The investigation revealed that the release of water from a 600 mm diameter pipe was not connected to the disposal of wastewater. Instead, the discharge was used for irrigating a local horticultural farm. Additionally, polypropylene pipes running nearby were found to contain electrical cables, not wastewater.

To ensure an objective assessment, water samples were collected and analyzed by experts from the regional Ecology Department and sanitary-epidemiological services. Preliminary lab results confirmed that the water met all sanitary standards as outlined in SanPiN 0083-24, and no pollutants were detected.

The inspection also verified the operation of a centralized wastewater collection system known as “Bakhachol,” which is owned by JSC “Chimgan-Chorbog Magistral Suv Tarmogi.” Wastewater from local residents, government institutions, and commercial entities is being routed to treatment facilities in Chirchik, in accordance with signed agreements.

A comprehensive survey of the entire Charvak Reservoir perimeter found no signs of unauthorized wastewater discharge or inflow via tributaries. Moreover, there was no evidence of factors that could compromise the safety or technical condition of the reservoir’s hydraulic structures.

In conclusion, the claims of illegal wastewater discharge into the Charvak Reservoir have not been confirmed.
