Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Citizens of Uzbekistan were not identified among the victims and injured in the prefectures of Japan where the earthquake occurred in early January. This was reported by Dunyo news agency.

Uzbek diplomats maintain constant contact with the relevant Japanese authorities, the agency notes.

A series of powerful earthquakes with a magnitude of up to 7.6 occurred in western Japan, near the Noto Peninsula, on the first day of the new year. More than 1,370 houses are partially or completely destroyed, and people may be trapped under the rubble.

To date, the death toll from this earthquake has risen to 168, and 323 people remain without contact.
