Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Starting from December 2019, the National interbanking payment system (NIPC) has integrated the Mastercard international payment system. Now Mastercard cardholders can make payments throughout Uzbekistan through HUMO terminals.

On 3 December, the National Interbank Processing Center (NIPC), together with the international payment system Mastercard, held a press briefing on the launch of accepting payments on international Mastercard cards in the HUMO system. Now holders of Mastercard cards can pay for goods and services throughout the country in the terminals serving HUMO cards.

“Having successfully completed all technical work with Mastercard and implemented it in the HUMO system, we are pleased to finally announce that, starting from December 2019, it became possible to use Mastercard cards in the entire HUMO terminal network. For us, this is a very important step in cooperation with international payment systems, which helps to create even greater amenities for guests and residents of our country. I would like to note that, thanks to the cloud update, there is no need to go to the bank to turn on the functionality: HUMO terminals are ready for accepting Mastercard payments,” Kurbanov Shukhratbek, director of the NIPC, said.

“We at Mastercard see long-term prospects for the development of cashless payments in the Republic of Uzbekistan and are glad that today we have reached a very important milestone - the launch of receiving Mastercard cards at the terminals of the HUMO payment system. In cooperation with the NIPC, we are opening a network of more than 170 thousand terminals for receiving Mastercard cards throughout the country, which will enable guests from all over the world to quickly and safely pay for goods and services in Uzbekistan. I am sure that the presence of a Mastercard card acceptance network in HUMO terminals will contribute to the development and stimulation of tourism in Uzbekistan, as well as the intensification of cashless payments, which, in turn, will make the country's economy even more transparent and efficient. I am grateful to the NIPC for their willingness to develop non-cash payments in partnership with Mastercard and I hope that this launch will be supported by entrepreneurs and trade and service enterprises throughout Uzbekistan, ”added Igor Stepanov, CEO of Mastercard in Georgia and Central Asia.

During the press briefing, a small presentation was held for journalists, which was accompanied by a question and answer session with representatives of Mastercard and NIPC.

Earlier it was reported that more than 800 ATMs that accept Mastercard cards were put into operation. At the moment, Mastercard card holders can contactlessly pay for goods and services in more than 170,000 terminals throughout Uzbekistan. The commission from merchants / sellers will be 1% of the total payment amount, and from cardholders 1.5%.
