Nikita Mikhalkov and Timur Bekmambetov to attend the revived film festival in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, at the Uzbekfilm cinema, the Cinematography Agency of Uzbekistan organized a press conference on the eve of the Pearl of the Silk Road Tashkent International Film Festival.

The event was attended by media representatives, experts, filmmakers and youth. The press conference was opened by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov and Director General of the Cinematography Agency of Uzbekistan Firdavs Abdukhalikov.

The Pearl of the Silk Road Film Festival was revived at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The President signed the Resolution "On the restoration and holding of the Tashkent International Film Festival." In accordance with the document, the Tashkent International Film Festival "Pearl of the Silk Road" will be held annually. The organizer of the film festival is the Cinematography Agency of Uzbekistan.

The grand opening of the long-awaited event will take place in the building of the cinema, popularly known as "Panoramic" and renamed the "House of Cinema". On the territory of the cinema complex there are several halls for screening films, as well as a large cinema and concert hall for premiere screenings with a capacity of 1890 people.

These days, the House of Kino is undergoing a large-scale reconstruction - the building is being equipped with modern, high-tech equipment. A huge cinema hall, a hall for conferences and events will open here. But the main attraction of the House will be the Museum of the History of Cinema, which will open within its walls. The exposition of the museum contains rare artifacts and exhibits related to the history of Russian cinema from the first days of its appearance. It is important to emphasize that the major reconstruction will not change the appearance of the building, the original facade and will preserve the architectural monument of the modernism era.

The opening ceremony will be attended by famous world and national film and pop stars: about 400 foreign filmmakers and 55 famous film stars from 37 countries of the world. Popular representatives of cinematography from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Israel, India, Italy, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, USA and other countries will also take part in the opening ceremony.

Among them are directors, actors, producers of films being shown, representatives of film distribution companies, international film festivals and organizations.

"The famous Russian cinema figure Nikita Mikhalkov will be a special guest of the film festival," he quotes representatives of the organizing committee.

It is also expected that the festival will be attended by Timur Bekmambetov, Artem Mikhalkov, Pavel Priluchny, Alexey Chadov, Irina Pegova and many others.

The Tashkent International Film Festival, also known as the International Film Festival of Asia, Africa and Latin America, was traditionally held in late May - early June from 1968 to 1997 by the State Committee of Cinematography and the Union of Cinematographers. Every year the festival was attended by cult directors, actors and cinematographers.

Within the framework of the Tashkent International Film Festival, the Days of Cinema of the countries of the world will be held - Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Israel, India, Italy, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan.

Days of World Cinema will be held throughout the entire film festival. Film screenings will begin on September 29 in all cinemas of the country. Each country will present its films not only in Tashkent, and in the regions of the republic.

To date, more than 150 films have been received for participation in the World Cinema Days program. Most of them will be screened with Uzbek subtitles.

Over 150 famous foreign filmmakers will attend the events. Among them are directors, actors, producers of films being shown, representatives of film distribution companies, international film festivals and organizations. Spectators will meet with famous directors and film actors.
