NGOs to assist Aral Sea Basin
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A roundtable dedicated to increasing role of nutrition quality to prevent anemia among children and women in Aral Basin region was held in Urgench, Khorezm region of Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of further developing legislation, ensuring rights of the non-government and non-commercial organization (NGO), participation of which in governance should be more effective.

Deputy Governor of Khorezm region and Senator Shakarjon Khojaniyazov said: “Currently further strengthening role of civil society institutions became vital role in democratization, formation of civil society and integration of Uzbekistan into world community.”

He said that adoption of new law “On social partnership” could help for further developing civil society institute, strengthening their role in ensuring transparency and efficiency of reforms. The law will envisage firmly divide borders and improve organizational-legal base of cooperation of NGOs with the state structures in implementation of programmes on social-economic development, solving humanitarian problems, defending rights, freedoms and interests of population, he added.

According to experts, currently the concept “Health mother – health children – health future”gives fruitful results. Special attention is paid to reproductive health of population and quality nutrition, prevention of anemia among women and children.

During the roundtable, the specialists discussed on correct nutrition of pregnant women, creation of new standards and propaganda of methods on protection from climate change, cooperation with local NGOs, information exchange and providing quality food to population.

It was said that there is need to increase number of NGOs in the region in healthcare sector. Participants underlined that the NGOs should unite around National Association of NGOs.
