NGOs of Uzbekistan offer to expand their powers
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to expand functions of mahalla (neighborhood) in system of public control over activity of the state bodies.

This was announced at two-day educational seminar, dedicated to the role of mass media in covering state policy in supporting and development of citizens’ self-government bodies (mahalla).

First deputy chairperson of Mahalla Charity Foundation R. Sheraliev said now it is necessary further expand functions of mahalla institution in system of public control for activities of the state bodies and ensure close interaction of the state bodies with the citizens’ self-government bodies on informing public about execution of state social programmes in places.

The event was organized by the Public Fund on supporting and developing independent print media and information agencies of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Mahalla Charity Foundation and the Institute on studying of civil society.

MPs, experts and scholars, journalists and other participated at the event, which also considered the Concept of further deepening democratic reforms and formation civil society in the country, announced by the President of Uzbekistan Isla Karimov.
