New session of UN General Assembly opens in New York
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The 69th session of the UN General Assembly opened in New York (United States) on Tuesday, 16 September 2014. Sam Kahamba Kutesa was elected the President of the UN General Assembly, who was earlier Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda.

Within the year, the General Assembly is planning to consider about 170 issues – from international security to fight terrorism, as well as situation with indigenous peoples, etc.

The General Debates of the UN General Assembly will be held from 24 September to 1 October, which will be attended by heads of the states and governments, as well as foreign ministers.

It is expected that about 90 heads of the states, 50 Prime Ministers and Vice Prime Minister, as well as over 40 Foreign Ministers.

On the eve of the General Debates, it is planned to hold Summit on Climate on 23 September. Some 115 delegations confirmed their participation in the summit.
