The RIA Novosti agency has published a new Sberbank logo. Now it will only have the word "Sberbank" and a blue-yellow-green unfinished circle with one green jackdaw inside.

The agency notes that the old Sberbank logo has already been removed from the wall of the central office on Vavilova Street in Moscow. A bank source said the new logo will be officially unveiled on 24 September. The application with the image of the new trademark has already been registered with Rospatent. RBC turned to Sberbank for a comment.

The fact that the word "bank" may disappear from the name of Sberbank back in 2018 was said by the head of the credit organization German Gref. He explained that the rebranding is due to the fact that now Sberbank is “much larger than the bank.” “We are already a large ecosystem. In this sense, it will grow and cover 360 degrees of our clients - both individuals and legal entities,” he said. RBC’s source in the bank explained that it was about developing a new branding for the entire SberX ecosystem.

The bank discussed several versions of the new logo. In August 2019, for example, a trademark in the form of a square was discussed. Even then, sources said that in addition to the corporate green color, a gradient from green to blue may appear in the logo.

Sergey Grishunin, senior manager of the risk management department of Deloitte CIS, in August 2019, estimated the possible cost of Sberbank’s rebranding at least US$300 million.
