Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 6 February 2024, President of Kazakhstan State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree “On Bektenov O.A.” The document was published on the Akorda website.
“To appoint Olzhas Abayevich Bektenov as Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, releasing him from his previously held position,” the decree says.
Olzhas Bektenov was born on 13 December 1980 in Almaty. He graduated from the Kazakh State Law Academy in 2001 with a degree in law.
He began his career in 2002 as the chief specialist of the department in the Almaty Department of Justice. In 2005-2006 he was an expert, chief expert of the Legal Department of the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From 2006 to 2017, he held various positions in the Presidential Administration (AP) of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Committee for Registration Service and Legal Assistance of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the central office of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Combating Economic and Corruption Crime (financial police), the office of the Akim of Astana, the Department of the National Bureau of Anti-Corruption Service (Anti-Corruption Service) in Astana.
He also held the positions of deputy akim of Akmola region (2017-2018), deputy chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Civil Service Affairs and Anti-Corruption (2018-2019), first deputy chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Anti-Corruption (2019-2022).
Since February 2022, he became chairman of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He held this position until April 2023.
From April 2023, he was appointed head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Earlier it was reported that at a plenary meeting of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the participation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Olzhas Bektenov was approved for the post of Prime Minister of the country.
