New modern passenger wagons launched for the Tashkent-Khiva route
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 24 April, a ceremony was held at the Central Railway Station to mark the launch of 10 new modern passenger wagons on the Tashkent-Khiva-Tashkent route.
The new wagons include 4 economy class (plazkart) wagons, each with 54 seats, 4 sleeper (kupe) wagons, each with 36 seats, and 2 compartment (SV) wagons, each with 18 seats. These wagons can collectively carry 396 passengers at a time.
According to "Uzbekiston Temir Yullari" (Uzbekistan Railways), the introduction of these new electric trains significantly improves the travel conditions for tourists. Notable improvements include the procurement of 47 modern passenger wagons in 2023-2024 and the construction of stations with appealing designs.
Under a decree from the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 10 October 2023 (No. PQ-329), funds have been allocated through preferential credit lines from the Restoration and Development Fund and the Industrial Development Fund for the purchase of 70 modern passenger wagons with new designs and all modern amenities in 2025-2026. During today’s ceremony, the first 10 of these wagons were put into service, starting passenger operations on April 26.
These wagons will be used for transporting passengers to Khiva, which has earned the status of "Tourist Capital," and will be able to serve 144,540 passengers annually.
Over the next two years, the number of such wagons will increase by another 70, while older wagons will gradually be phased out, ensuring high-quality services for passengers.
These efforts are expected to create capacity for transporting more than 1 million additional passengers per year.
