Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed the law "On State Secrets," which establishes the legal and organizational framework for classifying information as state secrets.
The document regulates the procedures for using and protecting state secrets, as well as the activities related to their processing and storage.
The unified state policy in the field of state secrets is determined by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been appointed as the authorized body responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations in this area.
Decisions regarding the inclusion of information in the list of state secrets and its declassification are made according to an established list of information that is subject to declassification in the country.
Heads of organizations dealing with state secrets are personally responsible for including information in this list.
The law defines three levels of classification for state secrets, each accompanied by the corresponding secrecy marking:
The period of classification cannot exceed thirty years for information deemed a state secret and ten years for official secrets.
The law will come into force three months after its official publication.
