The launch of terminal is another step in implementation of investment project “Creation of intermodal logistic center at the base of Navoi International Airport”, which is realized in participation of Korean Air.

Construction of terminal was started on 2 December 2008 and Zarafshan construction department of Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Combine (NGMK) acted as general contractor.

The terminal, as important transportation and shipping unit in logistic chain with developed infrastructure, can cover all range of transportation services in cargo receiving, storage and shipment with use of various transports.

New terminal at Navoi intermodal logistic center can process 300 tonenes of freight per day or 100,000 tonnes a year. South Korea’s Kyung Sang Machinery Co., Ltd, which also equipped Incheon Airport, provided equipment.

The terminal has 6 rack stations, 20 and 5 tonnes scales, refrigerators, heating rooms, dangerous cargo storage zone, areas for storing perishable goods and animals. The administrative building hosts all necessary services such as customs, sanitation, cargo transportation agents, etc.

Launch of the new terminal will increase the capacity of the new intermodal logistics centre to the maximum and expand the range of services, which will raise revenue, productivity and profitability and will improve quality of logistics services.

On 25 February 2008, Uzbekistan Havo Yollari, national air carrier of Uzbekistan, signed the memorandum of understanding with Korean Air after the visit of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov to South Korea.

The Memorandum envisaged cooperation between airlines and construction of new logistics centre, which will be used as a freight transportation hub to satisfy the needs of the population and meet the requirements of exports, imports, cargo and passenger transferring.

After the completion of the first phase of Navoi airport modernization in August 2008, the Korean Air launched a cargo flight from Incheon to Milan through Navoi airport with Boeing-747.

In accordance with the Resolution of the President of Uzbekistan from 1 January 2009 "On measures for creation of international intermodal logistics centre on the basis of Navoi airport", Navoi airport was handed over to management of Korean Air for 5 years with possibility of extension for another five years.

Later, the airlines inked an agreement, in line with which the Korean company leased two A300-600 freight airplanes to Uzbekistan Havo Yollari, which became next step in activation of logistics centre’s activity. Starting 27 May 2009, Uzbekistan Havo Yollari started the operation of new Navoi-Dehli-Navoi, Navoi-Mumbai-Navoi and Navoi-Bangkok-Navoi flights.

Presently, the transcontinential part of the global air services network through Navoi airport is represented by 12 Korean Air Boeing-747 flights a week en routes Incheon-Navoi-Milan, Incheon-Navoi-Brussels and Shanghai-Navoi-Milan.

The regional network is represented by 11 flights of Uzbekistan Havo Yollary a week en routes Navoi-Dakka-Navoi, Navoi-Frankfurt-Navoi and charter flights Navoi-Dakka-Navoi, Navoi-Frankfurt-Navoi, which is run once a week in both directions.

It is expected that soon new flights will be launched to Almaty, Dubai, Moscow and Tel-Aviv, the Uzbek airline said

Currently, the airport can serve 10 supersize aircrafts such as Boeing-747 per day. It is also equipped by 4 km runway, which can accept any aircrafts, and possesses modern complex of air navigation, as well as parking zone for five supersize Boeing-747 aircrafts.
