The center is a largest medical establishment in Uzbekistan on tuberculoses and nonspecific illness of lungs. Opening ceremony of the center was held within the International symposium “National model for protecting maternity and childhood in Uzbekistan: healthy mother – healthy children in Tashkent”.
Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe, and Azizbek Sadullaev, Chairperson of Mehr Nuri Foundation, opened new building at the presence of over 200 participants. Among guests were Uzbek Health Minister Adham Ikramov and delegates of international symposium.
The center has 6 buildings, of which 5 are treatment and diagnosis sections. Main treatment and diagnosis corpus is located in seven story building. The building includes admission department, chair of Tashkent medical academy, TB department, etc. Overall, the building has 301 beds.
Mehr Nuri Foundation initiated reconstruction of the building at the support of sponsors. The reconstruction of the building was carried out from January to October 2011. The center was equipped with new equipment and furniture.
National Center for Phthisiology and pulmonology was founded in Samarkand in 1932 as the Uzbek scientific-research institute over TB. In 1936, it was moved to Tashkent. It is main establishment of Uzbekistan healthcare system on TB and nonspecific illness of lungs. The center employs 435 people, including 46 doctors. The center serves over 5,000 patients a year.
