Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump occurred at the Trump Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida, according to American media reports.

U.S. Secret Service agents opened fire on a suspect believed to have planned an attack on the Republican presidential candidate.

The incident took place at a distance of approximately 270–450 meters from Trump, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw.

CNN, citing its sources, confirmed that authorities are treating the event as an assassination attempt on the politician’s life.

Donald Trump was unharmed, and his campaign team assured that the former president is completely safe.

"Shots were fired nearby, but before the rumors start spreading, I want to say this: I am safe and unharmed. Nothing will stop me. I will never give up," CNN quoted Trump’s statement.

Donald Trump Jr. also reported that an AK-47 was found at the scene, and the suspect was detained.

Law enforcement identified the suspect as Ryan Wesley Root, Fox News reported, citing its sources.

According to information published by The New York Post, Root had traveled to Ukraine and supported the Kyiv authorities.

His social media accounts were immediately blocked.

The Secret Service continues to investigate the incident. Current U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been informed.

It is worth noting that on 13 July, an assassination attempt took place during Trump’s campaign rally in Pennsylvania, in which the former president was wounded in the ear, and one spectator was killed.
