Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 September 2023, Uzbekistan Airways inaugurated a new airport in the city of Zaamin, Jizzakh region. The national airline started construction of the facility on 27 July and completed the main construction work on 1 September.
The airport complex is equipped with an asphalt runway 1,200 meters long, a parking lot for two aircraft, a control tower and, directly, an air terminal building that will house ground services, and a large hall will allow passengers to comfortably wait for flights. A parking area for cars is also provided, and in the future it is planned to build a helipad.
Due to the presence of LET L-410 type aircraft in the Uzbekistan Airways fleet, the airline plans to start operating regular flights to Zaamin in the very near future, after completion of certification by the UzAviation agency and receipt of the IATA code. Moreover, flights to such cities as Shakhrisabz, Zarafshan, Sarasia and Sokh are also being considered.
