Net income of MTS Uzbekistan reaches US$111.1m in 2010
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Net income of MTS Uzbekistan grew by 2.4% year-on-year in 2010 and reached US$111.1 million, Russia’s Mobile TeleSystems said in a statement.

At the same time, net income of the company increased by 1.8% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2010 to US$27.3 million.

MTS Uzbekistan’s revenue made up US$448 million in 2010 against US$404.9 million in 2009 (growth – 10.6%) and US$116.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2010 against US$105.2 million in the same period of 2009.

Total revenue from value added services in 2010 made up US$68 million. At the same time, revenue from message transfer reached US$26.9 million (+3%), from data transfer – US$13.5 million (+133%) and from content services – US$14.8 million (-11%).

OIBDA rose by 11.7% year-on-year from US$222.7 million in 2009 to US$248.7 million in 2010. The company said OIBDA margin grew from 55% in 2009 to 55.5% in 2010. Operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) represents operating income before depreciation and amortization. OIBDA margin is defined as OIBDA as a percentage of net revenues.

OIBDA increased from US$56.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2009 to US$62 million in the same period. OIBDA margin decreased from 53.9% in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 53.3% in the fourth quarter of 2010.

ARPU made up US$4.6 in the fourth quarter of 2010, while it was US$5 in the same period of 2009. In 2010, ARPU made up US$4.7. Average monthly service revenue per subscriber (ARPU) is calculated by dividing service revenues for a given period, including interconnect and guest roaming fees, by the average number of our subscribers during that period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

The MOU fell from 534 minutes in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 461 minutes in the same period of 2010. The figure made up 494 minutes in 2010. Average monthly minutes of usage per subscriber (MOU) is calculated by dividing the total number of minutes of usage during a given period by the average number of our subscribers during the period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

SAC grew from US$6.7 in the fourth quarter of 2009 to US$8.1 in the same period of 2010. The figure reached US$7.2 in 2010. Subscriber acquisition cost (SAC) is total sales and marketing expenses and handset subsidies for a given period. Sales and marketing expenses include advertising expenses and commissions to dealers.

Churn rate made up 6% in the fourth quarter of 2010 against 8% in the same period of 2009, MTS reported. In 2010, churn rate dell from 30.2% in 2009 to 24.7% in 2010.

The subscriber base of MTS Uzbekistan rose from 7.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 8.8 million in the same period of 2010.

The capital investments of MTS in Uzbekistan totalled US$157.9 million in 2010 and US$95.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2010.
