Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 May, an online meeting was held between the Chairman of the Committee on Tourism, Umid Shadiev, and the Executive Director of the UN for Tourism, Zoritsa Urosevic.
The foreign side highly appreciated the UN resolution adopted at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev declaring 2027 the “International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism.”
During the meeting, the mechanisms for working on proposals and initiatives put forward by the Head of State at the 25th session of the UN General Assembly on Tourism were examined in detail, and the implementation of approved measures was also discussed.
Currently, to implement each initiative at a high level, coordination working groups have been formed, consisting of specialists from responsible organizations, with which the Tourism Committee has established constant contact.
The “Global Code for Safe Tourism”, which is expected to be adopted within the UN and is included in the agenda of the 121st meeting of the organization’s Executive Council, scheduled for 10-11 June this year in Barcelona (Spain).
The parties approved the issue of holding the World Youth Tourism Summit in Tashkent in 2025, which is expected to become an important and effective platform for the implementation of youth tourism development projects and the creation of new ideas.
It was also decided to take joint measures to accelerate the implementation of such proposals as the creation of a council of historical cities, the approval of an international action program for the development of green tourism, the introduction of the Silk Road tourism award, as well as obtaining support from UN member countries in these matters.
