Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights hosted a meeting with a delegation led by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.
According to the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, it was noted that Uzbekistan supports the effective and independent functioning of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and that cooperation with this structure is developing consistently in a practical spirit.
At the meeting, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk highly appreciated the effectiveness of the efforts of the Government of Uzbekistan aimed at fulfilling its obligations in education and training in human rights and developing close cooperation with other countries.
The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation to further improve the mechanism for fulfilling international obligations in human rights, implementing the recommendations of the UN statutory and treaty bodies, as well as on issues of human rights education.
Views were exchanged on the nature and significance of the draft Constitutional Law “On the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, which will be submitted to a referendum.
