NBU says its consolidated balance grew to 5.701 trln soums
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Consolidated balance of the National Bank for Foreign Economic Relations of Uzbekistan (NBU) reached 5.577 trillion soums (equivalent in national currency), including off-system turnover 4.52 trillion soums, at the first half of 2009. NBU Board considered the results of the bank’s activity for the first half of 2009.

The bank said credit portfolio made up 2.0178 trillion soums (equivalent in national currency) as of 1 July 2009. In January-June 2009, the bank issued credits for US$150.5 million in hard currency, which is up 3.5 times year-on-year.

NBU issued 353.8 billion soums of credits in national currency, of which 136.5 billion soums were directed to small and private businesses. The volume of issued micro credits in national currency comprised 16.5 billion soums.

The bank allocated 160.7 billion soums to realize project within the Year of Development and Well-being of Village, including 38.2 billion soums to expansion of consumer goods production and 41.45 billion soums to stimulate manufacture of non-food consumer goods.

NBU selected 238 projects for US$513.4 million to finance within the foreign credit lines. The credit sum on these projects is US$312.7 million. The bank accepted 229 projects to finance with total cost of US$504.8 million and the credit sum of US$302.7 million.

The bank said it issued 188,100 plastic cards in January-June 2009 and their total number reached 1.526 million, which means that NBU is largest plastic card issuer in Uzbekistan. The bank said 30% of issued plastic cards of 455,300 were issued within salary projects.

Transactions with plastic cards rose by 3.2 times year-on-year and reached 160.8 billion soums in six months of 2009. The bank installed 5,170 trade terminals at 4,697 trade and service points in Uzbekistan.

As of 1 July, the bank issued 3.9 billion soums on plastic cards overdraft.
