Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- National Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the architectural and design company China Construction Engineering Design Group Corporation Ltd signed a contract for participation of the Chinese designers in developing the concept of the General plan of Samarkand and organization of the town-planning space in conjunction with the location of the objects of the SCO-2022 summit and the tourist zone of Samarkand city.

The agreement calls for involvement of a group of designers, led by the company’s vice president, chief planner, national registered town planner, Professor Song Xiaolong.

These activities are carried out in pursuance of the Order of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyeva from 11 June 2018 in preparation for the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO, scheduled for 2022 in the city of Samarkand.

In June 2018, on the eve of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, the World Bank and the Silk Road Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which envisages the joint implementation of the Samarkand city project in order to improve the tourist potential of the city of Samarkand as a world-famous historical and cultural center and create “Pearls on the Silk Road of the XXI century”.
