NBU assets make up 5.7 trillion soums
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Assets of National Bank of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activity of Uzbekistan made up 5.7 trillion soums as of 1 July 2010. Aggregate capital of the bank rose by 40.4 billion soums in the first half of 2010 to 710.7 billion soums.

The bank allocated loans for 1.217 trillion soums in first six months of 2010, of which US$396.6 million in hard currency. According to the bank, 563.1 billion soums were long-term investment loans.

The bank accepted 56 projects for US$25.8 million due to resources of foreign credit lines. The bank allocated 183 billion soums of loans in national currency. The loans helped to create 5,500 new jobs.

Currently, NBU is using credit lines of the China State Development Bank and Korea EximBank. In particular, the Uzbek bank increased agreement with Chinese bank for financing small and private businesses, as well as investment projects in Uzbekistan for US$75 million. Besides, Eximbank of Korea issued US$50 million for financing the Uzbek-Korean enterprises in Navoi free industrial and economic zone.

NBU rehabilitated production at 41 enterprises of 63, which the bank accepted to its balance. The bank issued 35.3 billion soums to rehabilitate production and modernize capacities of these enterprises, including 17.3 billion soums in the first half of 2010.

These enterprises produced goods for 40.7 billion soums and made exports for US$11.3 million. The bank is conducting works on realizing these properties to potential investors.

In order to ensure capitalization and strengthening resource base, NBU issued deposit certificates for legal entities at the volume of 100 billion soums with circulation term of 2 and 3 years. The certificates were fully placed. At the same time, the bank issued corporate bonds for 100 billion soums with maturity term of 4, 7 and 10 years. The bank inked agreements on placement of bonds for the sum of 91.3 billion soums.

NBU said it increased number of issued banking payment cards to 2 million, emitting 234,100 cards in January-June 2010. The volume of transactions with cards made up 424.2 billion soums, which is 2.2 times up year-on-year.

Number of trade and service points, where POS-terminals were installed, reached 6,560. They are using about 7,180 POS-terminals. Their turnover rose 2.2 times year-in-year to make up 388 billion soums in January-June 2010.

Within so-called salary projects, NBU issued 653,200 banking payment cards, which makes up 32.5% of total number of issued cards. About 520.6 billion soums were transferred to special accounts with salary projects.
