Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- National mobile communication operator Uzmobile will develop a network of mobile communication network on the base of GSM standard till the end of 2017.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution “On measures on organization of activity of national operator of mobile communication” on 12 February 2014.

Uzbekistan creates national operator of mobile communication on the base of Uzmobile, a branch of the joint stock company “Uzbektelecom”.

New network of GSM standard will be created on the base of frequency resources, which are earlier used by Uzdunrobita (subsidiary of MTS in Uzbekistan). At the same time, Uzmobile will continue to render mobile communication service on CDMA-450 standards.

License of Uzdunrobita was abolished in 2012. The Government fined the operator for US$600 million.

In line with the schedule of measures on creating national operator, Uzmobile will cover Tashkent city with its mobile communication network installing 1,020 base stations, 500 sets of radio relay equipment, as well as communication station and billing systems for 2 million numbers.

National operator Uzmobile will cover regional centers of Uzbekistan in 2015 and install 1,994 base stations, 2,000 sets of radio relay equipment, as well as communication station and billing systems for 8 million numbers.

In 2017, the company will cover other settlements with its network, installing 3,986 base stations and 4,000 sets of radio relay equipment. It is also planned to install stand-alone solar power systems for equipment.

National operator Uzmobile will attract soft long-term loans of foreign banks and financial institutions, as well as commodity loans of equipment suppliers to finance purchase of base stations, telecommunication equipment and software to create mobile communication network.

Currently, there are four mobile communication operators in Uzbekistan. Beeline (subsidiary of VimpelCom) and Ucell (subsidiary of TeliaSonera) provide mobile communication services on GSM standard, while Uzmobile and PerfectumMobile – on CDMA standard.
