National dialogue within the framework of Central Asian Initiative held in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Within the framework of the Central Asian Initiative for Sustainable Development (CAI), a National dialogue was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on 10 December.

The dialogue formed National Working groups and determined priority directions for pilot projects. The event was hosted by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia at the financial support of the European Union.

The participants of the National dialogue reviewed a wide spectrum of problems within the framework of the Initiative, including the outcomes of implemented activities and prospects of the forthcoming national dialogues on CAI in CA countries. Attention was given to the problem of enhancing the process of nature preservation in the Republic of Uzbekistan in view of key issues on the threshold of Astana-2010 and Astana-2011.

The meeting was held with the participation of representatives from the State Nature Preserve Committee, Ministries of Agriculture and Water Resources, Center of Hydrometeorology under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and international and non-governmental environmental organizations.

As of today CAREC has already held national dialogues in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrghyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan within the framework of the project “Multilateral Dialogues on CAI”, the purpose of which is to build up and develop the national inter-sectoral and organizational basis for CAI.

On 6-7 October 2009 the Sub-regional dialogue on CAI presented the results of the four national dialogues on CAI, worked out proposals and guidelines for preparation and participation of the countries at COP-15, and also discussed and set proposals on key priorities of the countries to forthcoming Pan-European Ministerial Conference.

The Central Asian Initiative for Sustainable Development (CAI) has been recognized as an interactive platform of cooperation in CA countries within the framework of the process «Environment for Europe» (EE) at Ministerial Conference in 2007 in Belgrade.
