Narbayeva: Uzbekistan will actively cooperate with the ILO to improve the system of labor relations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At present, within the framework of participation in the 111th session of the International Labor Conference, the delegation of Uzbekistan, located in Geneva, Switzerland, held meetings with the heads of specialized structures of the ILO, as well as with representatives of the governments of a number of countries.

During the visit, the Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbaeva held talks with US Deputy Secretary of Labor for Foreign Affairs Thea Lee, as well as with US Special Representative for International Labor Affairs Kelly Faye Rodriguez.

During the dialogue, attention was paid to issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of labor relations between the two states.

Tanzila Narbaeva in her speech noted the prospects for cooperation in the implementation of new joint projects to improve the system of labor relations, improve working conditions in various sectors of the economy. “After achieving real results and solving the political part of the problem in the sphere of labor, the main part of the practical work has begun, that is, the priority task has become the creation of decent working conditions, the introduction of international standards in the sphere of labor,” said the Chairperson of the Senate.

In turn, Thea Li highly appreciated the current level of cooperation with the ILO and reforms in the field of labor relations in Uzbekistan, welcomed the great success of Uzbekistan in short-term constructive cooperation with the ILO and the main member states of the Organization for Child Labor and the Elimination of Forced Labor.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue consultations with interested departments on the issues under discussion.

During the talks with German Federal Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Hubertus Heil, the focus was on strengthening the social security system together with Germany, linking employment programs with social security and implementing new projects to digitalize these networks.

Tanzila Narbayeva noted that thanks to the political dialogue at the highest level, the scale of which is expanding every year, cooperation between our countries is strengthening in various fields, including in the field of labor relations, the experience of Germany in the field of introducing international standards in the field of labor, building potential of employers.

Hubertus Heil dwelled on the positive dynamics of bilateral relations, highly appreciated the agreements in the field of labor relations, which open a new page in relations between the two countries. He emphasized that Germany is interested in strengthening economic cooperation by intensifying labor processes and creating a reliable legal framework for this.

At a meeting with the ILO Special Representative to the UN, Beate Andrees, the parties discussed the prospects for further expansion of cooperation between the ILO Regional Office in Europe and Central Asia and Uzbekistan.

T. Narbaeva in her speech emphasized that Uzbekistan is always firmly committed to complying with international labor standards, this area remains a priority in our policy, it is necessary to strengthen consistent cooperation with the ILO through the implementation of new joint projects and programs in the field of labor relations.

Beate Andrees, in turn, noted that the constructive cooperation of the ILO Regional Office with Uzbekistan will continue. – Your country occupies a leading position among the countries of the region due to the achievements in a short period of time. In practice, we feel that in Uzbekistan there is a political will for more open cooperation with our Organization. In this regard, the ILO regional office will pay special attention to the issue of expanding cooperation, B. Andrees noted.
