NAPU and Luzhou discuss prospects for cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 August 2019, the National Agency of Project Management under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (NAPU) hosted a meeting with representatives of the people’s government of the city of Luzhou (China).

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Agency headed by Deputy Director D. Maksudov, on the Chinese side – a group with the Executive Vice-mayor of the people’s government of Luzhou, Mr. Liu Ke.

Deputy Director D. Maksudov noted the strong bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and China, which have developed in recent years and are marked by a high degree of economic activity, with a total trade turnover of 6.4 billion dollars.

"China has been the largest source of investment in Uzbekistan for four consecutive years. We are grateful that China considers Uzbekistan one of the key partners in the implementation of The "One Belt, one Road" Initiative, investing heavily in infrastructure, transport and telecommunications in Uzbekistan. Trade and economic relations between China and Uzbekistan are supported by political understanding between the leaders of the two countries," he stressed.

The Chinese side took the initiative to give the status of "twin cities" to the cities of Jizzakh and Luzhou, as a symbolic and wise step towards the establishment of friendly, mutually beneficial relations.

At the meeting, the sides discussed the possibility of establishing export-import between the cities of Jizzakh and Luzhou and the establishment of local production of spare parts for the Uzbek automotive industry.

Following the meeting, a Memorandum of understanding was signed, aimed at creating a legal framework for establishing mutual cooperation necessary for the joint development of cooperation in the field of industry, agriculture, economy, trade, culture, education, health, tourism, sports, art.

At the end of the meeting, the Chinese delegation invited representatives of the Uzbek side to visit the city of Luzhou to get acquainted with the objects of industrial production.
