Namangan Airport to Be Managed by International Company Following Reconstruction
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Following a major reconstruction, Namangan Airport will be transferred to the management of an international company, Minister of Transport Ilhom Makhkamov stated in an interview with Uzbekiston 24.
According to Makhkamov, the airport, one of the largest in the region and serving as a hub for the Fergana Valley, is being modernized under a public-private partnership. The new passenger terminal will be able to accommodate up to 1,200 passengers per hour—three times its current capacity.
“All work, from air traffic management to passenger services, is being carried out in full compliance with international standards,” Makhkamov emphasized.
The Head of State instructed that a multi-level parking facility with service points on the ground floor be constructed near the airport, along with convenient transportation links between the airport, the city, and surrounding areas.
Chairman of Uzbekistan Airports, Javlonbek Umarhodjaev, noted that the number of aircraft parking stands will increase from seven to fourteen. The project also includes the construction of a new air traffic control building and the renovation of other aviation infrastructure facilities.
The renovation is scheduled for completion by spring 2026. Umarhodjaev explained that the expanded terminal will eliminate inconveniences caused by the separate location of departure and arrival zones, increase transit capacity, and provide more space for commercial services.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has emphasized that the development efforts should not be limited to aviation services alone but should also include the active development of ancillary infrastructure not directly related to flights.
