Multifaceted cooperation with the World Bank is developing

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 2 June this year, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Kudbiev met with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister of Economy and Finance Sherzod Kudbiev congratulated Antonella Bassani on her appointment as Regional Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia, as well as on his first visit to Uzbekistan. Hope was expressed that in the future cooperation will be brought to a new level.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Ilkhom Norkulov, heads of relevant structures, as well as the World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia Tatyana Proskuryakova, Head of the World Bank Office in Uzbekistan Marco Mantovanelli, Project Manager Rakhimzhan Assangaziyev, Lead Economist David Knight, Assistant Vice President President Silvia Malgioglio.

The agenda discussed promising projects for 2023-2024 and the current portfolio of investment projects of the World Bank.

Antonella Bassani said: “Everyone recognizes the macroeconomic stability achieved in Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan is one of the few countries in the region that has made progress over the last 3 years of the crisis.”

At the same time, during the meeting, the foreign partner was informed that today, despite the geopolitical situation in the international arena, incomes of the population are growing in our country, entrepreneurship, in particular small business, is developing, which creates prerequisites for economic growth.

Also, within the framework of the reform program, an exchange of views took place on priority areas important for the country, such as energy, telecommunications, the chemical industry, transport, social and gender aspects. Together with the World Bank, an agreement was reached to continue work in these areas.

Representatives of the World Bank emphasized that reforms carried out in one area affect the development of other sectors of the economy and contribute to their transformation.

In addition, within the framework of the meeting with the World Bank, documents were signed on the projects "2nd Stage of Livestock Development" and "Financial Sector Reform".

Following the meeting, the parties agreed on the implementation of the tasks set and the further accelerated development of joint projects.
