Mudslide in Zaamin district: Consequences of bad weather being addressed, no casualties reported

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On Tuesday, 27 May, several settlements in the Zaamin district of Jizzakh region experienced brief but intense rainfall that triggered a mudslide, the regional Emergency Situations Department (ESD) reported.

The mudflow temporarily blocked a road in the Duoba mahalla, covering it with a sandy and gravelly mass. According to the ESD, there were no casualties or damage to residential houses, social facilities, or livestock.

Emergency crews are currently working at the site, clearing the road and eliminating the aftermath of the natural disaster with the help of engineering equipment.

The Jizzakh regional Emergency Situations Department urged citizens to exercise caution when traveling and resting in mountainous and foothill areas.

According to the forecast by Uzbekhydromet, from May 28 to June 2, due to precipitation, mudslide and flood risks are expected in nine regions of Uzbekistan. In some areas, accumulation of rainwater may lead to flooding.
