MTS Uzbekistan revenue makes up US$112.8m in 3Q 2011
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Revenue of MTS Uzbekistan, largest mobile operator of Uzbekistan, grew by 4% in the third quarter compared to the second quarter of 2011 and reached US$112.8 million, Russia’s Mobile TeleSystems said in a statement.

At the same time, the company’s revenue fell by 1.8% compared to the third quarter of 2010, when the revenue was US$114.9 million. Total revenue of MTS Uzbekistan made up US$326 million in nine months of 2011 against US$332 million in the same period of 2010.

Net income of the company decreased by 57.6% from US$27.6 million in the third quarter of 2010 to US$11.7 million in the same period of 2011. The figure fell by 34.3% compared to the second quarter of 2011.

Total revenue from value added services made up US$22.1 million in the third quarter of 2011 (US$16.8m in 3Q 2011). At the same time, revenue from message transfer reached US$7 million (+3%), from data transfer – US$8.6 million (+167%) and from content services – US$4.4 million (-2%).

At the same time, total revenue from value added services in nine months of 2011 reached US$58 million against US$50.2 million in the same period of 2010. Revenue from message transfer fell from US$20.1 million to US$19.8 million and from content services – from US$14.1 million to US$11.6 million (-2%). The revenue from data transfer increased from US$9 million to US$19.8 million.

OIBDA made up US$56 million in the third quarter of 2011 (US$64.4 million in 3Q 2010). OIBDA margin decreased from 56.1% in the third quarter of 2010 to 49.6% in the same period of 2011. Operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) represents operating income before depreciation and amortization. OIBDA margin is defined as OIBDA as a percentage of net revenues.

In nine months of 2011, OIBDA reached US$171 million (US$187 million in January-September 2011).

ARPU made up US$3.8 in the third quarter of 2011, while it was US$4.8 in the same period of 2010. Average monthly service revenue per subscriber (ARPU) is calculated by dividing service revenues for a given period, including interconnect and guest roaming fees, by the average number of our subscribers during that period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

The MOU fell from 508 minutes in the third quarter of 2010 to 421 minutes in the same period of 2011. But the figure grew by 1% compared to the second quarter of 2011. Average monthly minutes of usage per subscriber (MOU) is calculated by dividing the total number of minutes of usage during a given period by the average number of our subscribers during the period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

SAC decreased from US$7.8 in the third quarter of 2010 to US$6.5 in the same period of 2011. Subscriber acquisition cost (SAC) is total sales and marketing expenses and handset subsidies for a given period. Sales and marketing expenses include advertising expenses and commissions to dealers.

According to MTS, churn rate made up 9.3% in the third quarter of 2011 against 7.2% in the same period of 2010.

The subscriber base of MTS Uzbekistan rose from 9.47 million in the second quarter of 2011 to 9.97 million in the third period of 2011. The growth rate made up 5.7%.

The capital investments of MTS in Uzbekistan totalled US$24.9 million in the third quarter of 2011 against US$19.6 million in the same period of 2010.
