The company said the EDGE service is available for subscribers of the company in all regions of Uzbekistan from 21 December 2009.
The operator, subsidiary of Russia’s Mobile TeleSystems, said the subscribers in all cities and regions can automatically use EDGE service, if their handsets support this technology and they have activated WAP/MMS/GPRS service. It added that there is no need for additional settings and network selects it automatically.
EDGE (Enhanced Data-Rates For GSM Evolution) is technology for data transfer, which allows to transfer data at the speed of 384 kbit/s.
Nuriddin Shadmanov, Deputy Director-General of MTS-Uzbekistan, said the EDGE service now makes access to Internet and WAP resources and MMS transfer more effective. He added that the launch of EDGE service across Uzbekistan allows more subscribers to use more opportunities from use of mobile handsets.
