Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- MTS-Uzbekistan, largest mobile operator of Uzbekistan, had over 5.65 million subscribers at the end of December 2008, Russian Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) said on 19 January.

The Russian firm said its subsidiary in Uzbekistan recorded 2.8% (new 160,000 subscribers) growth of subscribers base in December compared to November.

Compared to 2007, the subscribers’ base of MTS-Uzbekistan doubled from 2.8 million in December 2007 to 5.65 million in December 2008.

According to official data, mobile operators of Uzbekistan served over 12.65 million people as of 1 January 2009.
