MTS revenue in Uzbekistan makes up US$101.1m
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Revenue of Mobile TeleSystem (MTS) in Uzbekistan decreased by 1.9% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2009 to US$101.1 million, Russian mobile operator said on Friday, 13 November.

Net income of the company comprised US$32.3 million, which is 25.7% less compared to the third quarter - US$43.5 million.

In the third quarter of 2009, the capital investments of MTS to property, plant and equipment in totalled US$129.2 million in Uzbekistan. The company spent approximately US$5 million on the purchase of intangible assets in Uzbekistan.

OIBDA decreased 20.6% year-on-year to US$52 million in the third quarter quarter of 2009. The company said OIBDA margin was 52% in the third quarter of 2009 compared to 65.5% in the same period of previous year. Operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) represents operating income before depreciation and amortization. OIBDA margin is defined as OIBDA as a percentage of net revenues.

ARPU decreased from US$7.3 in the end of third quarter of 2008 to US$5.1 in the same period quarter of 2009. Average monthly service revenue per subscriber (ARPU) is calculated by dividing service revenues for a given period, including interconnect and guest roaming fees, by the average number of our subscribers during that period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

The MOU fell in the third quarter 2009 to 500 minutes from 525 minutes in the third quarter of 2008. Average monthly minutes of usage per subscriber (MOU) is calculated by dividing the total number of minutes of usage during a given period by the average number of our subscribers during the period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

SAC grew from US$7.7 in the third quarter of 2008 to US$8.3 in the same period of 2009. Subscriber acquisition cost (SAC) is total sales and marketing expenses and handset subsidies for a given period. Sales and marketing expenses include advertising expenses and commissions to dealers. SAC per gross additional subscriber is calculated by dividing SAC during a given period by the total number of gross subscribers added by us during the period.

Number of subscribers of MTS Uzbekistan grew from 5.06 million in the end of 2008 to 6.79 million in the beginning of October 2009. The share of the company in Uzbekistan’s mobile market decreased from 45% in the third quarter of 2008 to 44% in the same period of this year.
