MPs of Uzbekistan for ratification of Convention against Doping in Sport
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan recently considered a draft law “On ratification of International convention against doping in sport (Paris, 19 October 2005)” in the first reading.

It was noted that accession to the Convention does not entail any financial obligations. MP Urol Haitov, member of committee on science, education, culture and sport said, in line with convention Uzbekistan will have to adopt measures in national and international level based on World Anti-Doping Code. Besides, the Convention also envisages international cooperation with member-states and anti-doping organizations, including World Anti-Doping Agency.

The accessing member states should also provide report on carried out measures to the Conference each two years.

MP said that the legislation includes norms on banned means in sport. In particular, article 16 of the Law “On physical culture and sport” has such norms. The Ministry of Culture and Sport Affairs of Uzbekistan developed new draft law.

International convention against doping in sport was adopted at the 33rd session of the General conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The document is directed at preventing use of doping in sports and combating doping.

About 135 countries joined the convention. Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Armenia inked the document among the CIS states.
